The leading wicket-taker for England in the longest format of the game, James Anderson in all likelihood will be rested for the next six weeks. The decision has been taken after the fast bowler experienced the recurrence of some discomfort. He has been suffering from a long-standing right shoulder injury. Anderson is one of the greatest fast bowlers of the modern generation. He has to be managed well in the twilight of his career.

Anderson recently suffered a stress fracture in the right shoulder during the summer of 2016. It has troubled him ever since. Anderson has claimed that it has been hurting him even when he is brushing his teeth or putting on a shirt. The fitness of Anderson will be pretty crucial as England prepares for a 5 match Test series against India. It is slated to start from 1st August.

The English team management has taken the decision to rest him for the next two Championship fixtures against Worcestershire and Hampshire. He is expected to undergo a rehabilitation process for six weeks as per an ECB statement. The inclusion of Anderson for the India series will be crucial to their chances in the series.

Trevor Bayliss says it will be a challenge to all the bowlers

“We have five Tests against India in a six-week period from August 1, which will be an intense and challenging period for all our bowlers,” Trevor Bayliss, the England coach, said. “Therefore it’s vital that we ensure Jimmy goes into that series in the best possible condition.

“Jimmy has to manage the issue with his right shoulder and we’ve been advised that the best way for him to prepare for the India series is to take a six-week break from cricket now, initially to rest it and then to work slowly back to cricket.

“That six-week period covers Lancashire’s two Championship matches over the next the next three weeks. We will then monitor to see where Jimmy is at and ensuring he is ready for the India series.”
