In a big boost to Team India, their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has finally started training. The right-arm pacer has not played any competitive game since starring in the two-match Test series against West Indies. The Indian team-management has taken a lot of care in managing his workloads but the pacer still ended up suffering a stress fracture in his back.

As a result of the injury, he could not play against South Africa which would have been his first Test at home after impressive performances in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies. He has five-wicket hauls in each of those countries and bagged a hat-trick in the Caribbean. Last month, he had also the UK with the National Cricket Academy’s chief physiotherapist Ashish Kaushik, and consulted specialists to treat the back problem.

Due to the injury, Bumrah not only missed the South Africa series but also the ongoing one against Bangladesh. India’s next assignment is against West Indies. The Men in Blue will host the Caribbean outfit for a limited-overs series next month but Bumrah is very much unlikely to play in it. Although the pacer has started training, the team-management will be unlikely to rush him to action. He is likely to return to action when India tour New Zealand early next year.

The bowler, nonetheless, himself took to Twitter to confirm that he has started training. He posted a picture of himself alongside two of his mates, tweeting:

Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, meanwhile, hasn’t affected the performance of India’s fast bowling group. In his absence, the trio of Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami have made life difficult for the opposition batsmen in the ongoing home season. India whitewashed the Proteas in the three-match series and recently won the first Test against Bangladesh too.
