Rohit Sharma has impinged himself as one of the great leaders of the game in white-ball cricket of the current era. Rohit, who made his captaincy debut during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League, is the only captain to lead his franchise [Mumbai Indians] to as many as four championship triumphs.

One of the many endearing qualities of Rohit Sharma- the captain- is his ability to remain calm even in the most precarious situations. Besides that, Rohit is one of those leaders who gives his teammates the ultimate freedom to express themselves.

Jasprit Bumrah recently testified that during a video posted by MI Twitter handle where he revealed that the freedom that Rohit Sharma has given him to express himself, has helped him flourish in his career thus far.

“For me, he (Rohit) has always given me the freedom, he has always told me to express yourself (myself), be whatever you want, be it any situation, take ownership of your own bowling, so that gives me a lot of confidence and a responsibility that I’m responsible for whatever I’m doing,” Jasprit Bumrah said in a video posted by MI’s official Twitter handle.

“So that’s a big thing for a captain because then he gives a bowler so much of confidence. He trusts you so much and he trusts the decisions that you will take and that’s a very positive sign.” he added.

Bumrah’s fellow teammates like SuryaKumar Yadav and the member of the coaching staff like head coach Mahela Jayawardene and Zaheer Khan have also heaped high praise on the leadership abilities of Rohit Sharma.

“He is always open to take suggestions on the ground. I have seen him a lot of times when there is a crunch situation, or when he is put under pressure, that time he is very calm, cool and composed. He takes tough decisions during that time,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

Mahela Jayawardene hailed Rohit as an ‘instinctive leader’ while Zaheer Khan described his former teammate as a ‘thinking cricketer’

“You have this very relaxed, cool-looking guy. His mannerism when he bats, he’s got that elegance, which you can call it lazy elegance. But he is very intense and hard-core when it comes to thinking about the game. He actually channelizes his energy very well. He’s very good with controlling the emotions of the pressure situation, he likes to take that pressure on himself.” Zaheer Khan said.
