Jasprit Bumrah Receives Polly Umrigar And Dilip Sardesai Awards

India pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah hogged the limelight at the BCCI Annual Awards function after receiving the prestigious Polly Umrigar award and Dilip Sardesai honour for his on-field bowling exploits in international cricket in the 2018-19 season. It should be noted that the Polly Umrigar award is given to the best male International cricketer.

This award comprises a citation, trophy and cheque of INR 15 lakh while Dilip Sardesai award is conferred on both the highest wicket-taker and highest run-getter in Test cricket. India pace spearhead Bumrah grabbed 34 wickets in just six matches with three five-wicket hauls.

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Agarwal receive awards

Meanwhile, Saurashtra batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was picked for the honour for accumulating 677 runs in 8 games at a stupendous average of 52.07 with three centuries and two half-centuries. Poonam Yadav bagged the top prize in the women’s category and was awarded the best international cricketer.

India’s aggressive right-handed batsman Mayank Agarwal who came through with flying colours with his debut series in Australia in 2018-19, received the best international debut award as far as the men’s category is concerned while talented 15-year-old Shafali Verma received the same award in the women’s category.

Shivam Dube showcased his mettle as a productive all-rounder in the just-concluded T20 series against Sri Lanka and the Mumbai all-rounder was presented the Lala Amarnath Award for the best all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy. Delhi’s Nitish Rana also received the same award for performing well in the limited-overs competition.

India’s middle-order batswoman Deepti Sharma bagged the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for best woman cricketer in the senior domestic circuit. As far as Shafali is concerned, she was picked for honour in the junior category.

Virender Sharma was named the best umpire in domestic cricket while Vidarbha Cricket Association were presented the best performance award in domestic cricket for winning the Ranji Trophy.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that this is their typical way of appreciating the best on-field performances from junior to senior cricketers at the highest level. “The BCCI Awards is our way of recognising the finest on-field performances right from the age group to senior level and also honour our legends.”

Meanwhile, Board secretary Jay Shah added, “We wanted to make Naman bigger and better and have introduced four new categories highest run-getter and wicket-takers in WODIs and best international debut men and women from this year.
