Ishant Sharma had made a massive impact on the ongoing Test match against West Indies both with the bat and the ball. Initially, he stood with Ravindra Jadeja in the crease to get those crucial runs while with the ball, he was a force to reckon with. Meanwhile, he credits a part of the success to Jasprit Bumrah for his suggestion to try out cross-seam.

India resumed their first innings on Day 2 of the first Test against West Indies with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. However, the home team got rid of Pant early, thus reducing Team India to 207-7. Ishant Sharma then joined Jadeja in the middle as the duo put on 60 runs for the 8th wicket, with Jadeja playing the role of the aggressor in the partnership.

His half-century helped India nearly reach 300, but ultimately, he lost his wicket to Jason Holder as the Indian innings ended at a score of 297. Ishant, too, played a crucial knock of 19 runs, lasting 62 deliveries. He managed to survive the lethal fast bowling of the Caribbean pacers. What followed to his knock was something special.

However, the senior India pacer attributed the good show to pace bowling partner Jasprit Bumrah’s advice of trying cross-seam stuff. Ishant took three wickets from his final three overs to complete his ninth five-wicket haul in Tests as West Indies trail by 108 runs with just two first-innings wickets in hand on Friday.
“There was rain and after that the ball became wet and there was nothing happening (with the ball). So, we thought we can bowl with a cross seam. There was bounce. Actually Bumrah told me that we can try cross seam since there is nothing happening,” Ishant, who returned with figures of 5/42, said.
However, from start to finish, India’s day of dominance was punctuated by Ishant’s brilliance. It would be interesting to see how things would pan out for him in the remaining half of the Test match.
