Former Pakistan legend, Javed Miandad wants the two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan to start engaging in bilateral ties on a regular basis.
He stated when both the teams can play each other in world tournaments then what is their problem facing each other in bilateral ties on a regular basis.
Miandad’s query
During his interaction with APP, he asked the reason behind the two nations not playing each other in bilateral ties.
“When both Pakistan and India can play with each other in World Cup, Champions Trophy, World Twenty-20 and Asia Cup then why cannot in a bilateral series,” Miandad queried. The two teams last met each other in a bilateral series back in 2012-13.
Pakistan toured India in 2012-13 for a three-match series which Pakistan won by a 2-1 margin. Since then, the two teams haven’t played any bilateral series. But they keep facing each other in ICC tournaments. India won the opener of the Champions Trophy in 2017. However, Pakistan defeated them quite convincingly in the final.

Miandad was one of the finest batters for Pakistan between 1975-1996.
“The more we play, will end hatred between both countries and relations would get better,” Miandad said. He further added the politicians should stop politicising the matter.
Miandad was named 44th among best cricketers
Miandad was recently ranked as the 44th among best cricketers of all time by the ESPN Legends of Cricket.
“India-Pakistan series is even bigger than the Ashes. We (Pakistan and India) can rule the world of cricket if we work and play together,” he said.
Recently the International Cricket Council’s decision to convert the 2021 Champions Trophy slated to be played in India into a World T20 event.
They have finally scrapped the eight-team tournament. The former Pakistan skipper and coach said it was a good decision by ICC especially because people are more interested in watching shorter formats that the longer matches.
“However the ICC must keep a strict eye on match-fixing issues as shorter formats involve a bigger threat of fixing,” he said.
