On Friday, Saurashtra registered their first-ever title in the Ranji Trophy 2019-20. The Ranji Trophy final was an enticing fixture between Bengal and Saurashtra as it is, and it gave cricket fans a bizarre run-out — to talk about as well. Leading the eventual champions, Jaydev Unadkat showed some brilliant presence of mind, to dismiss Bengal’s Akash Deep in the final.

It was a hilarious yet shocking run-out which sent Akash back to the pavilion, for a duck, all thanks to Unadkat.

The incident took place in Bengal’s first innings, they were trailing by 425 runs but were trying to stage a comeback.

In the 153rd over Akash failed to make any sort of contact with Unadkat’s delivery, and somehow he fell asleep having no part of his foot inside the crease. After this, the keeper tried to run him out, but he missed and the ball fell kindly to Unadkat.

The Saurashtra pacer tried his luck and aimed for the stumps and was successful in dismissing Akash who was hilariously dumbfounded at the incident.

Saurashtra players started to appeal and the video replays showed that the Bengal batsman was outside the crease.

Here is the video of Jaydev Unadkat dismissing Akash Deep most bizarrely:

It was a sign of poor match awareness from Akash as he wasn’t aware of his presence in the crease, and the decision cost him and his side dearly, as they eventually lost the game.

Bengal had already lost the wicket of well-set batsman Anustup Majumdar, who hit 63 runs in 151 balls.

Getting dismissed in such a bizarre fashion at such a crucial juncture of the game would surely have affected the morale of the Bengal side.

After Akash’s run-out, they folded for 381 runs in no time, giving Saurashtra a crucial 37-run lead, which eventually won them the game in the end.
