Jonty Rhodes highlighted the interview process on day 2 as the veteran coach appeared in front of the selection committee via skype. Rhodes, who was associated with Mumbai Indians for nearly a decade, is a strong contender to take over the post but if Ravi Shastri has his way, R Sridhar could be retained.

Sridhar has done an excellent job as the fielding coach but ignoring Rhodes is not an easy task for any panel.
Julien Fountain, one of the unheard names in India, appeared for the interview in person at BCCI’s office. The former Pakistan fielding coach has also had a stint with Bangladesh, West Indies and England.

In the evening, the present coaching staff consisting Bharat Arun, Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar also appeared for an interview via skype. Al the members of the coaching staff were given a 45-day extension. It is unlikely that major changes would be made to the staff.

In all likeliness, Bharat Arun will be reappointed as the bowling coach. India have a number of fit pacers in the Test format, courtesy the hard work put in by him.

Bangar might not get his contract renewed due to his inability to find a number four batsman for the World Cup 2019. It’s been more than two years that Men in Blue do not have any number four batsman. Rishabh pant was auditioned for that position in West Indies but the punt failed. Shreyas Iyer, who batted at number five, was backed by Ravi Shastri to do the job.

Apart from the aforementioned candidates, Steffan Jones and Darren Gough also appeared for an interview via skype, as per Sporstar. Jones, the bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals, could impress the selection panel. He has also applied for the bowling coach post at NCA. Gough, the former England pacer, played 58 Tests and 159 ODIs in his career.

England’s Jonathan Trott and Mark Ramprakash are also in the fray to join the Indian team. They have applied for the batting coach post. Trott recently worked with England during the Ireland Test while Ramprakash was associated with England from 2014 to early 2019.
BCCI will announce the names of Ravi Shastri’s coching staff on Thursday.
