Former Australian leg break bowler Shane Warne believes England should consider Jos Buttler as the Test captain replacing Joe Root to allow Root to become the world’s best batsman. Australian legend Shane Warne also feels that the Yorkshire batsman Joe Root should focus more on batting department. Root doesn’t have the best conversion rate whereas Jos Buttler has recently made a fine comeback to the Test cricket.

However, Warne worked as the role of a mentor in IPL for Rajasthan Royals. He is convinced with the wicket-keeper batsman and also his credible Test leadership skills as he observed him from the close corner.

Shane Warne has observed Jos Buttler from the close corners.

“I’ve worked with Jos a bit this year and I think he’s someone who would make an excellent captain,” I really enjoyed his company, and talking the game of cricket with him. He would be a very, very good England captain,” Shane Warne said as quoted by PA Sport.

Moreover, Shane Warne also thinks that Joe Root is the best England’s player. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and Steve Smith have more centuries as compared to Root.

Joe Root is England’s best player.

“I think Joe Root is England’s best player. But he’ll be disappointed with his conversion rate when it comes to hundreds. He’d love to have more hundreds to be able to be spoken about in the same sentences as Virat Kohli and Steve Smith.” he added.

Furthermore, Warne also feels that Buttler could play with his freedom and also can captain his side. Root who has played 74 Test matches for England now needs to concentrate more on his batting department.

“I like Joe Root, he has a good manner about himself. He’s a gentleman. Maybe England could think about their best player having the shackles off, not having the responsibility of captaincy, and give it to someone like Jos Buttler. Jos could play with his freedom and captain the side, and Joe could just concentrate on his cricket. If he totally 100 per cent concentrates on his cricket, his batting and nothing else, then maybe we might see Joe Root become the best batsman in the world. He’s got the talent to do it.” Shane Warne concluded.

Shane Warne has observed Jos Buttler from the close corners in the Indian Premier League. Buttler has made a fine comeback to the Test arena. However, handing him the Test captaincy could be a bit of a gamble.
