Australia chief coach Justin Langer made an admission that the current form of Glenn Maxwell is a cause of concern ahead of Thursday (June 14) morning’s first One-day International against England at the Oval.

Meanwhile, Maxwell once again failed against Middlesex in the final warm-up game on Saturday (June 9). Despite all the odds, Australia defeated them by 101-runs with Maxwell contributing just three runs.

It followed with his dismissal for just one run against Sussex in the first practice game. Moreover, he had a lean Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign for Delhi Daredevils (DD) where he averaged 14.08 in 12 outings.

The talented all-rounder Maxwell is the only member to miss out on an extended stay in the middle since reaching the United Kingdom (UK).

However, Langer believes Maxwell is too good to be out of the runs for long.

He is (a worry) but that said I have been super impressed with Glenn Maxwell, his preparation has been literally outstanding,” SMH quotes Langer as saying.

It will be surprising if he doesn’t get a very big score very soon. There’s been a lot of talk about Glenn Maxwell but I like with the way he goes about his business and even the way he has been batting in the nets. I am sure a big one is not far away from him,” he added.

Ponting to have a positive influence:

Meanwhile, former skipper Ricky Ponting has joined the side to assist Langer during the ODIs. Justin Langer said he expects his influence to have a positive effect on Maxwell.

To have the influence of someone like Punter is goldIf he keeps preparing well and keeps trusting his preparation it is not far until he becomes an absolute star,” he concluded.
