Kane Williamson Named New Zealand ODI Player Of The Year

Kane Williamson, at the back of his prolific performance in the 2019 World Cup, has been named New Zealand ODI player of the year. Kane Williamson led New Zealand to 2019 World Cup final, where the Black Caps, lost to England on basis of superior boundary count. It was an extra-ordinary achievement by the New Zealand captain for which he has been rewarded at the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) awards.
Suzie Bates was named the women’s ODI player of the year while veteran top-order batsman Ross Taylor bagged the men’s T20 Player of the Year award. Bates won the women’s ODI Player of the Year award having made two half-centuries in three matches against South Africa, the only series in the format for New Zealand in the last 12 months, according to ICC.
Kane Williamson was simply exceptional: New Zealand coach
Kane Williamson was adjudged player of the tournament in 2019 World Cup and was also named the men’s ODI player of the year. The premier batsman accumulated 578 runs in nine innings at 82.57 at the quadrennial showpiece. New Zealand head coach Gary Stead congratulated the skipper for his effort and said he had an exceptional year.
“Kane was simply exceptional at the ICC Cricket World Cup last year,” said Black Caps coach Gary Stead.
