Once at least a thought would have crossed everyone’s mind that how would the former players have fared at an IPL auction. Be it the likes of Sir Vivian Richards, Ian Botham, Wasim Akram or even Kapil Dev, what must be there bidding price. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar has come up with an answer to it. In a recent event, Gavaskar said World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev would have cost 25 crores to the franchises in an IPL auction.

Kapil would have gone for 25 crores
On Tuesday, the IPL 2019 auctions took place in Jaipur. Though the Windies’ players made headlines, a few of the uncapped Indian cricketers made history. From Varun Chakravarthy to Prabhsimran Singh, the unknown Indians had pocketed a significant amount.
However, speaking in the context of a player’s ability to perform in IPL, Gavaskar said Kapil Dev would have had all the attention. Also, Gavaskar reveals what makes him say so.

Elaborating his point, the legendary opener said Kapil Dev’s 175 against Zimbabwe in the 1983 WC was the greatest knock he watched in his career. Though there are no visuals available of that game, Sunil says the conditions were tough then, and Kapil’s innings had saved India’s day.
“That 175 is the greatest knock in ODI history I have seen as a player and as a commentator… I have never seen a better inning. The situation we were in…We were 17 for 5. It was cold and the ball was moving. It looked like we would be bowled out for 70 or 80. Kapil did not play any lofted drives till he reached 80. It was amazing to see him those sixes. He would have gone for Rs 25 crore in the IPL today,” he told Aaj Tak.
Moreover, there was never a doubt of Kapil Dev as a cricketer, and by making such a statement, Sunil Gavaskar proved so. Being the hard-hitting and impactful all-rounder, Kapil Dev was, he would have garnered a lot of money at the IPL auctions.
