The new T10 cricket team, Karachians which was launched in April this year, has announced retired Australian all-rounder Shane Watson as the team’s icon player for the second edition of the T10 League.
Pertinently, it is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) later in the year. Watson is definitely one of the most sought after cricketers in the shortest version of the game across the world.
Experienced all-rounder Watson proved his worth recently in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) grand finale. He smashed an unbeaten 117 off 57 deliveries against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to help Chennai Super Kings (CSK) seal the IPL title for the third time in their history.
The all-rounder Watson was at his imperious best that particular day. He was quite impressive all through the tournament. The swashbuckling batsman smashed one more century during a group match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Meanwhile coming back to the tournament, the T10 League is a professional T10 tournament which was launched in 2017. It is owned by the T10 Sports Management.
The approval of the tournament is given by the Emirates Cricket Board. It is the first ever internationally ten over format approved league.
The 10 overs-a-side match has been slated to be played within 90 minutes time. Karachians was approved as the T10 League franchise team last month. It is owned by Artistic Properties, a Dubai based boutique of a property developer.

“We are pleased to announce that Shane Watson, the former Australian cricket team captain and one of the best cricketers in the world today, has joined the Karachians to lead the line-up of prestigious international cricket players at the T10 Cricket League that was founded in the UAE last year,” the Director of Artistic Properties and Co-Owner of Kardashians, Mohsin Imran was quoted by Gulf Today.
Watson is a relative newcomer in the format:
“Our choice of Shane Watson demonstrates our position and seriousness in promoting the UAE’s home-grown T10 Cricket League and we are proud to say that this is the beginning of many more to come,” he added.
“Being a newcomer in the T10 League format, Shane Watson will lead an aggressive campaign for Karachians to win the title in our first participation in the tournament. Karachians will bring the necessary ingredients – the crowd, fan-following, the star cricketers and the sponsors to the T10 League and help it gain further popularity to the nascent tournament, especially after his match-winning century in the finals of the just-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday,” he remarked.
Watson retired a couple of years ago:
Watson despite his retirement from international cricket a couple of years ago has continued to impress in the T20 Leagues all across the world.
Shane Watson has really looked in great touch in the IPL. Hence he has been made the icon player for Karachi for the T10 League. He will definitely look to make an impression in the T10 League as well.
