Former Indian cricketer Karsan Ghavri will be joining the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) along with Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Sahil Kukreja respectively, confirmed by him.
Meanwhile, Ghavri will replace another former cricketer and paceman Ajit Agarkar after the latter decided to step down.
Agarkar decided to leave the top post to remain in the selection committee in order to avoid the conflict of interest.
However, CIC works on cricketing decisions like appointments of coaches, trainers, physio and selectors at various age groups.
The 39-Test veteran, Karsan Ghavri is likely to be the chairman of the MCA’s CIC.
As per sources, Committee of Administrators (CoA) at MCA wanted Agarkar to lead the CIC.
However, Agarkar refused the offer to remain the Chief Selector of the senior team. Meanwhile, Ghavri told Press Trust of India about joining the CIC.
“As soon as I get the letter from the MCA. Let the MCA decide (about it),” he said.
On the other hand, a senior MCA official said Agarkar has decided to leave the CIC. But is yet to give any official confirmation over his resignation.
“He (Agarkar) has preferred to remain in the selection committee, but he is yet to give it in writing,” the official revealed.
At the moment, former Mumbai skipper Amol Majumdar is the only member at the MCA for CIC.
Furthermore, the committee can have only six members, after Pravin Amre and Ajit Wadekar decided to leave the committee to avoid conflict of interest.
