The Greenfield International Stadium in Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram, will host a One Day International (ODI) cricket match between India and Windies on November 1, the BCCI confirmed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the state capital will host the fifth and the final ODI of the series. The match will start at 1.30 pm on the Kerala Piravi Day.
“We have received an email from the BCCI Tours and Fixtures Committee, which confirmed that the state will host the fifth ODI in the India-West Indies series,” said Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) secretary Jayesh George.
Previously, KCA received plenty of criticisms for preferring to host the match at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi. It will require digging up of the newly-laid football turf at the venue.
Following protests from all front, KCA decided to drop their plan. The Windies will visit India during October to November and will play two Tests, five ODIs, and three T20 Internationals. Moreover, this will be the second international cricket match at this stadium.
India eyes the Afghanistan series
With this edition of IPL done and dusted, all focus has shifted to the upcoming Test series against Afghanistan. The debutant Afghanistan will play their first Test starting from June 14 in Bengaluru.
Rashid Khan & Co will be high on confidence after dominating Bangladesh in the T20 series. Although India will miss their skipper Virat Kohli, BCCI have named a strong squad for the one-off Test.
Ajinkya Rahane will lead the side in place of Kohli and will look to gain momentum before the upcoming overseas tour. Following this, India will visit England for the series across all the formats.
