West Indies fast-bowler Kesrick Williams has hit back at Kevin Pietersen for the latter’s ‘not good enough’ comment last year. Kesrick Williams was all over the news when West Indies toured India last year. While he did impress everyone with his performance on the batting friendly Indian pitches, it was his duel with Virat Kohli that made more popular.

Kohli had famously taunted the West Indies star by doing the ‘notebook celebration’ in reply to what the pacer had done after dismissing him once earlier. Kohli had taken Kesrick Williams to the cleaners, hitting him for 32 runs off 12 balls during the Hyderabad T20I. Later, the Indian captain had clarified that he didn’t mean any disrespect to his opponent.

Coming to Pietersen’s comment, the legendary batsman had called Kesrick Williams not good enough after former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar advised the IPL franchises to go for the West Indies pacer in the auction. Pietersen disagreed with Manjrekar’s opinion of Williams and said that the latter has got nothing special except his celebration.

“Completely disagree. He’s not good enough! He has nothing special apart from his celebration…,” he had tweeted.

Unfortunately for Williams, he went unsold in the auction with no franchises bidding for him. And Pietersen had mocked the West Indian later too after he went unsold. Replying to a Manjrekar tweet in which the latter had praised West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran, Pietersen tweeted:

Kesrick Williams hits back:

Well, almost five months after that episode, Kesrick Williams has hit back at Kevin Pietersen. The right-arm pacer said that Pietersen made the comment because he wanted the attention.

“KP likes the spotlight. Nothing wrong with liking the spotlight but it is the way how you get the spotlight,” said the West Indies star.

“At that point, nobody spoke to KP. He was not important. KP was off the map and KP just wanted a reason to be on the map,” he added as he went on to mock the England legend for his distasteful comments.
