Kevin Pietersen has expressed his desire to be involved in coaching the England Cricket team on the eve of his final match for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
“Of course, it would be nice to have a connection. I have an incredible amount to offer the game. It is wasted that English cricketers do not benefit.
“They still come to me and ask for help. That is happening and I love that. To be involved with this young, one-day set up would be nice. I would like some involvement because I love the way they play. It is so good,” Pietersen said.
Pietersen is currently enjoying commentating in Australia on England’s one-day team. Notably, England has wrapped up the series already beating host Australia 3-0.
Pietersen showered heaps of praise on Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss for the way they have changed England’s one-day side.
“It is attack. Although Eoin has not scored runs for a while his captaincy has been brilliant. He is a man in control of his team. When you play a lot of one day cricket you get to grips with passages of play, you understand the game and you do not panic as much as somebody who does not know what is going on. The first person to panic is the one who fails. If you do not panic and also understand you are going to have bad days then that is important as well.
“It takes a special person to chill out and be level pegging, and accept some days will be bad days. I just love the attacking nature. It is brilliant to see they are playing the way we should always have been playing. We have always had the players, it was the system. It is lovely they have a free reign to go out there and fail which is magnificent. Bayliss has had so much experience in the IPL and T20 cricket so he has seen failure and success. They have indicated white ball cricket is something they fancy and want to win a World Cup and it is brilliant that they are backing players to be so positive,” Pietersen added further.
The 37-year-old Pietersen is ready to move on. He will be playing his final Melbourne Stars match on Saturday will be followed by a stint in the Pakistan Super League. Pietersen will devote more time to his conservation work. He parts with no regrets.
“I am finishing with Big Bash. I can’t see myself coming back here and wanting to play another season of Big Bash. My body is starting to ache and I am really not enjoying the fielding side. It is starting to really get on me. I have a couple of tournaments left that I am fully committed to but I can’t see myself in ten months time wanting to play cricket,” he stated.
“Saturday is my last game. I am aware of how lucky I am to have played one Test match. I may have worn the bravado and tried to act super confident. But I have never ever forgotten that whenever I went through bad times that I was an off-spinner who could not hold a bat aged 18. It will be a celebration. I have loved my career. I will not shed a tear over something that has been so cool,” Pietersen signed off.
