Former England skipper and arguably one of the most flamboyant cricketers during his playing days, Kevin Pietersen has finally decided to hang up his boots from all forms of cricket. Pietersen is part of the Melbourne Stars Unit in the ongoing Big Bash League and has been scoring runs consistently. However, he is of the opinion that he is nothing more to prove or get any better than the current situation and hence this will be his last season in the Big Bash League.
Taking to his twitter handle, Pietersen wrote:
“Confirming that this is my last BBL as a player! By the time BBL starts later this yr I cannot see myself wanting to improve or try & get better. That means it’s time to finish! I’ll enjoy playing my last few games at the Adelaide Oval, SCG & MCG.”
“I think everybody knows that you come to the end of your time and stuff so for me you get to that time in your career where you just think, ‘Do I want this?’ “I want it desperately at the moment, but I don’t think I’ll want it in 10 months’ time.”
The stylish batsman last played international cricket for England way back in 2014 until a fall out between the board and Pietersen himself finally led to his ouster from the team. When he first burst onto the scene in the 2005-06 he had golden streaks and was always a charged up man on the field. In his very first series, people realized that the stylish batsman was destined for greatness.
Soon his career started flourishing in all formats of the game. In his debut series, he took on the legendary Shane Warne with disdain and was instrumental in helping England regain the Ashes after several years. It was a special series for the England team which marked the rise of Pietersen.
