Rohit Sharma’s 70 undoubtedly formed the bedrock of Mumbai Indians’ innings; however, it was the fireworks by Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya that lifted his side to a daunting total against Kings XI Punjab in Abu Dhabi. After striking a whirlwind fifty against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai, Kieron Pollard crafted yet another impactful knock against Kings XI Punjab.
Kieron Pollard finished with 47 off only 20 deliveries, laced with three fours and four sixes, thwarting the KXIP’s bowling attack. The towering all-rounder smashed three consecutive sixes off the last three balls of the innings. Additionally, he shared an unbeaten stand of 67 off only 23 deliveries with Hardik Pandya, lifting the defending champions to a winning total.
Following Mumbai Indians’ demolishing batting performance, the bowlers showcased a tidy bowling display to restrict Punjab to only 143, 48 runs short of the target. The likes of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal provided a flying start; however, could not get going like their last few matches. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with bowling figures of 4-0-18-2, removing Mayank Agarwal and James Neesham.
“It is good to see Hardik Pandya striking well. You want him to come out and hit” : Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard feels delighted to end up on the winning side after narrowly missing out on the last game. He realized the importance of raising the tempo following scoring only 100 in the 15 overs as Hardik Pandya and Pollard took charge. He also hailed Pandya for striking the ball cleanly and is looking forward to the challenge in Sharjah. Mumbai Indians face SunRisers Hyderabad in Sharjah on Sunday.
“Feels good. Obviously we were on the losing end last game so we wanted to come out and get over the line. After 15 overs we had 100 or so so we needed to step it up. Try to pick your match-ups, try to pick your bowlers. Try to analyse the game. We knew we had a couple of overs from spinners, and we were going to maximum against them. It is good to see Hardik Pandya striking well. You want him to come out and hit. Looking forward to Sharjah. But we need to bat the situation and not the ground,” Pollard said in the post-match presentation.
