Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have appointed former India head coach Anil Kumble as the head coach ahead of the next season. The post was vacant after they parted ways with Mike Hesson after a poor outing in IPL 2019.

Kumble, who enjoyed a good spell with team India has also worked with franchise-based teams Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Although Anil Kumble had to step down after a clash with skipper Virat Kohli, he left an impression of himself with the team. It was during his tenure, the entire team focused on improving their overall fitness levels which helped them in many ways.

They reached the finals in 2014 but lost it to Kolkata Knight Riders despite a spectacular hundred from Wriddhiman Saha. In the last two seasons, they have lost track after making a good start to the competition.

Anil Kumble will work alongside former teammate Sunil Joshi, who is the assistant coach of the side. Former Australia cricketer George Bailey, who has captained Kings XI Punjab earlier will join as the batting coach. As per reports in TOI, Jonty Rhodes and Courtney Walsh are likely to take up the role of the fielding and bowling coach respectively.
