Andre Russell is one of the hardest-hitting all-rounders in the shortest format of the game. Andre Russell joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2012 when they lifted their first IPL trophy and since then, has scripted some crushing wins with both bat and ball. While the Jamaican been outstanding for the franchise, pace bowler Prasidh Krishna has affirmed that the team is not overdependent on him.
The discussion about Andre Russell’s overdependence erupted due to the two-time champions’ performance in the previous season. Kolkata finished sixth on the points table in 2019, winning only six games out of 14.
Their hallmark was of batting collapses consistently and relying on Russell to perform a rescue act almost every time. The 31-year-old received the player of the tournament award as well for accumulating 510 wickets and 11 wickets.
Prasidh Krishna disagreed with KKR overdependent on Andre Russell; however, admitted he is one of their vital players. Krishna added that to say that they are overdependent would be an injustice to our team, but Russell has bailed them out from plenty of precarious situations.
“Russell is one of the biggest stars in the team. For anybody to say that a team is dependent on one person, it will be an injustice to others in the team. He has bailed us out on many occasions. He is our superstar and there is no doubt about it,” the 24-year-old told Times of India.
He is an amazing captain for KKR: Prasidh Krishna
The right-arm pace bowler lauded Dinesh Karthik for showing trust on the players, which is the foremost quality that makes him a fantastic captain. He stated that that the keeper-batsman allows their players liberty, ensuring their role is well taken care of.
“The best thing in DK is that he trusts players. That’s the biggest thing which makes him a good skipper. He will give you freedom on the field. He will ensure your role is well taken care of. He is an amazing captain,” the Karnataka-born added.
