KL Rahul’s terrible run in Tests continued on Saturday as he threw away another start. The India opener scored 38 before he was sent back to the pavilion on day three of the ongoing first Test against West Indies in Antigua. Rahul, in fact, has been struggling to deliver in Tests from last one year or so. He was awfully out of form last year.

The highly-rated opener, who is being persisted with despite several failures, managed to score only two fifty-plus knocks last year. While one was a fifty against Afghanistan at home, the other was his 149-run knock against England at the Oval when India had already lost the series. Time is running out for Rahul and he now desperately needs to deliver.

Unsurprisingly, he was disappointed when he threw away yet another start on Saturday. The under-pressure opener admitted that he needs to be patient in order to return to his best in Tests.

“Obviously, I am very disappointed but there are a lot of things I am doing right so I just have to keep my head down and show some more patience,” Rahul told reporters after the day’s play.

Rahul, however, said that he was batting well and looked comfortable in the two innings.

“I just have to prolong the good things that I am doing until I get to 35 and 45. I have been batting well and look comfortable in both the innings. Headspace and everything is very good so I am happy about a lot of things,” he said.

The batsman said that he was aiming to demonstrate a similar game in the first 200-250 balls as he does in the first 80.

“If I can keep patience and keep batting the way I do in the first 60-80 balls till 200-250 balls, then it will benefit me and the team and I am looking to do that in the next match,”  he explained.

Rahul played 85 balls and was sent to pavilion by Roston Chase after he scored 38 runs. India, meanwhile, are truly in command of the proceedings at the moment. At the end of day three, they were 185 for 3 with both Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane looking solid in the middle. India took a handy 75-run lead after bowling out West Indies in the first session. India’s top three failed to contribute much before Kohli and Rahane joined hands.

The two have already added 104 runs for the fourth wicket to help India take a 260-run lead. Rahane, who top-scored with 81 in his team’s first innings total of 297, will resume on the fourth morning on 53 alongside Kohli on 51.
