KL Rahul, India and KXIP batsman,  has expressed his delight at being appointed as the vice-captain of the ODI and T20I set-ups of the Indian Cricket Team.

The Indian squad for the white-ball fixtures (3 ODIs + 3 T20Is) and the four-match Test series for the tour of Australia was recently announced by the national selection committee.

In the absence of regular vice-captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul was appointed as Virat Kohli’s deputy in white-ball cricket.

Rahul has been in brilliant form in limited-overs cricket in the past 12 months. Not only has the stylish batsman asserted his position as a middle-order batsman in 50-over cricket, but he has also pipped the likes of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper.

KL Rahul has continued his brilliant form in the ongoing IPL, where he is currently topping the run-scoring charts.

Speaking about his new role as vice-captain of Team India, KL Rahul was visibly delighted but he, however, added that he was not expecting it.

“It is a very happy and proud moment. I wasn’t expecting it, but I’m very happy. I am ready for responsibility and challenge and I will try to do my best for my team as much as I can,” KL Rahul said in an interview published on KXIP’s official website.

“I am looking forward to the coming tour but the next 2-3 weeks before that are very important. The next 2-3 months will be very important. I am thinking about one day at a time, not much forward at the moment,” he added.
