KL Rahul played a sublime knock in the build-up to team’s run-chase of 207 in the first T20I against West Indies at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Digging in detail about the run-chase, Rohit Sharma got out on a mere 8, KL Rahul ensured not to give away his wicket that easily while West Indies mounted pressure on him. However, he held his nerves and took the bowling attack to cleaners alongside Indian captain Virat Kohli.

KL Rahul and Virat Kohli stitched together a match-winning 100-run partnership for the second wicket as Rahul chipped in with 62 off 40 balls on the back of 5 fours and 4 sixes to his name. Virat Kohli who looked unsettled in the first 20 deliveries, defied all challenges and went on to score a marvellous 94 off 50 balls with the help of 5 fours and 5 sixes as India beat West Indies by 6 six wickets with 8 balls to spare.

Not worried about T20 World Cup: KL Rahul

After the match, India batsman KL Rahul said that he is least worried about next year’s T20 World Cup and is pretty much focused only on setting the solid foundation for the team. He executed his plans really well in the T20I opener and made use of the opening opportunity to better effect. In the process, he also became the joint-third fastest to score 1,000 T20I runs as he achieved the landmark in 29 innings.

The Karnataka batsman was given a chance to open alongside Rohit Sharma in the T20I series against West Indies as regular opener Shikhar Dhawan is nursing a knee injury. KL Rahul is well aware of the fact that his place for the T20 World Cup is still not guaranteed. However, he wants to make his presence count on the pitch by piling up runs for the team.

“It’s a long way, honestly. I’ve got the opportunity to bat at the top of the order again after a couple of series. So (I’m) looking forward to just making the best use of it. Today was a good outing, a good hit in the middle and hopefully, I just continue the same thing and not worry about October next year, there are lots of games before that,” he said while addressing the reporters at the post-match press conference.

Talking about the gameplan about how India aced the run-chase comfortably in the end, he said: “When you are chasing 200 plus runs you obviously want to come out hard and you know you are chasing ten runs an over. We knew that once we hit one or two boundaries then it will start to bring a lot more boundaries. We kept the intent going and the plans were very clear that you have to hit boundaries. Fortunately, Virat carried for us and finished the game.”
