KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma needed to fire on all cylinders when they came out to bat against West Indies in the ongoing first T20I in Hyderabad. India’s decision to bowl first turned out to be wrong as West Indies piled up a mammoth total of 207 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored for the visitors, scoring 56 off 41 balls with the help of 2 fours and four sixes.

After Lendl Simmons departed cheaply, Evin Lewis blasted 40 from just 17 to give West Indies a solid start. Towards the end, skipper Kieron Pollard and his predecessor played quickfire knocks to propel their side to a big total. While Pollard smashed 37 from just 19 with the help of four sixes, Holder blasted 24 off just 9 balls.

With such a huge total to chase, India needed a good start. However, Rohit Sharma failed to get going and departed for just 8. But KL Rahul and Virat Kohli soon brought India’s chase on track. Fresh off the victory in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rahul looked in ominous touch while Kohli for a change played the role of the second fiddle.

Rahul, who was opening the innings in absence of injured Shikhar Dhawan, made the most of the opportunity by scoring 62 and adding 100 runs with Kohli. His knock came off 40 balls and contained five fours and four sixes.

Shattering hit:

KL Rahul hit his first six on the final ball of the fifth over bowled by Sheldon Cottrell. The left-arm pacer bowled a well-directed bouncer at Rahul who instead of ducking down decided to go for the shot. Rahul hooked the bouncer and it was a huge six which landed in Indian team’s dugout. But before landing, the ball ended up hitting the refrigerator and shattered the door.

Here is that six from KL Rahul:
