After few terrible outings for Team India in the last couple of months, out-of-favour opener KL Rahul has finally regained his form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-handed batsman was recently dropped from the Test team for the upcoming series against South Africa. He received the setback after his terrible form in Tests in the last one year or so.

Since the start of 2018, Rahul has averaged 22.23 across 15 Test matches, scoring one hundred, against England at The Oval, and one fifty, against Afghanistan in Bengaluru. His career average, which stood at 44.62 before this lean run slumped to 34.58 before he was dropped. KL Rahul now needs to make the most of the Vijay Hazare Trophy to earn a recall from the national team.

And he has started on a promising note. After scoring 29 against Jharkhand earlier this week, the Karnataka vice-captain has scored a sublime ton in the ongoing game against Kerala. The opening batsman scored 131 before being sent back by KM Asif. KL Rahul’s knock came off 122 deliveries and contained 10 fours and four sixes.

Along with Rahul, Karnataka captain and another India hopeful Manish Pandey impressed too. Pandey scored 50 from 51 balls before Vinoop Sheela Manoharan sent him back. Pandey had scored a fifty in the previous game too, helping Karnataka crush Jharkhand by 123 runs.

Both KL Rahul and Manish Pandey will be looking to continue their fine form in the remainder of the tournament to impress the selectors. India will next host Bangladesh for three T20Is and two Tests and both the players will be desperate to be part of the series. Neither of two have managed to seal their spot in the Indian team but a good outing for Karnataka will surely put them in a good spot.
