KL Rahul’s graph in International Cricket has gone down tremendously after his comeback from the shoulder surgery a couple of years. He was given ample chances across the formats by the selectors and the team management for his impeccable skills. However, he failed to do justice to his position, which saw him being dropped in Tests. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly speaks about his struggles.

KL Rahul, who lost his place in Tests, must perform on a consistent basis to hold on to his position in shorter formats of the game. The likes of Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson are knocking runs more often than not to put KL Rahul in a bowl of soup.

An upcoming couple of T20I games will decide his future in shorter formats of the game with a lot of players showing eagerness to deliver on the big stage whenever they get the opportunity. Shreyas Iyer will put KL Rahul on his toes – Sourav Ganguly

Ganguly feels that KL Rahul will be under pressure all the time to hold his position at number 4. He sees no place to KL at the opening slot with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan being the regular players. With Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey scoring consistently, Ganguly asked KL Rahul to show his calibre.

“With Rohit (Sharma) and Shikhar (Dhawan) at the top as the best possible opening pair, K L Rahul will be pushed. He has lost his place in Test cricket due to indifferent form and the likes of Shreyas and Manish Pandey will keep him on his toes if he wants to hold on to the No. 4 slot,” he said.

Youngsters should get opportunities:

Sourav Ganguly wants selectors to give the youngsters repeated chances in order to build the future. He wants to look at the present and wants to build the team for the future. Ganguly feels that the current Indian team is in safe hands but need to give chances to the youngsters without worrying about ICC T20I World Cup 2020.

”Team India need to do is pick the best possible players and give them consistent opportunities, as there is some serious talent in the domestic circuit. Virat, Rohit (Sharma), Shikhar (Dhawan), Hardik (Pandya) and (Ravindra) Jadeja have made a mark already and the young firepower needs to come in to take this team to the next level,” the 47-year-old wrote in his column to Times of India.

Well, it would be interesting to see what is in the store for KL Rahul. As of now, KL Rahul is on a thin block of Ice, as far as his survival is concerned in the Indian National Cricket Team.
