Veteran batsman Ambati Rayudu has started his campaign in IPL 2020 in a stunning manner by playing a match-winning knock of 71 for Chennai Super Kings against Mumbai Indians in the tournament-opener. His impressive knock helped CSK beat the defending champions by five wickets.
He came out to bat at number four when CSK were in all sorts of trouble while chasing 163. The three-time winners were reeling at 6 for 2 in the second over with both their openers – Shane Watson and James Pattinson – back in the hut. But before Mumbai Indians could make further inroads in the game, Ambati Rayudu steadied the ship with Faf du Plessis.
The right-handed batsman mixed caution with aggression to keep CSK on track in the chase and received good support from du Plessis. After taking no risk at start, Ambati Rayudu started playing the big shots while du Plessis looked more than happy to play the role of the second fiddle.

He departed in the 16th over after scoring 71 off just 48 balls. His impressive knock was studded 6 fours and three sixes. Du Plessis, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 58 and scored the winning runs in the final over.
Fans react to Ambati Rayudu’s innings:
The first game of IPL 2020 was the first high profile game for Ambati Rayudu since last year’s IPL following which he was sensationally not picked for the World Cup. The right-handed batsman was looking set to be India’s number four at the World Cup.
However, the selectors dropped a big surprise by choosing an inexperienced Vijay Shankar ahead of him. He did have a poor home series against Australia but overall he had done reasonably well since returning to the team in 2018. And as if that snub was not enough, the selectors did not even name him in the squad after India lost two players due to injury.
And as Ambati Rayudu impressed against Mumbai Indians, the fans took to Twitter to lavish praise on him and slam the selectors for the World Cup snub. The fans lashed out at former chief selector MSK Prasad as well as captain Virat Kohli.
Here are some of the reactions to Ambati Rayudu’s brilliant innings:
Super 2018 season. Fails yo-yo test, dropped. Proves fitness, returns. Hits form for India A, makes IND comeback. Small blip at home v Australia. Dropped for 2019WC. Retires in anger. Announces comeback. Plays for HYD. Retained by at CSK. Opens with fifty in 2020. Played, Rayudu

What we missed in the match between India and Newzealand in semi finals of world cup. When any one is out kohli will be there , when kohli is out we should have our own RAYUDU. Happy to see him today.

Kohli should be accountable for dropping Rayudu … If Rayudu played in England he would won Word cup and bring Kohinoor on the way.

What an innings by Rayudu. Looks a million dollars today. Clearly the best batsman from either sides, seems to be batting on a different surface. One thing that pains me even today is that an Andhra chief selector(MSK Prasad) didn’t select Rayudu for the World Cup. That too after averaging 50+ at No.4
