Kolkata Knight Riders Announce List Of Retained And Released Players

Ahead of the auction for the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders announced their list of retained players and released players.

As expected, the two-time champions have retained the core of the team. Dinesh Karthik, who led the team admirably in the last season, and Kuldeep Yadav headline the list of retained players. Long-serving batsman Robin Uthappa, Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla and Chris Lynn are also in the team. The team has also retained big-hitting Windies allrounder Andre Russell.

Former Under-19 star Shubman Gill, who impressed last season, is also in the team along with his former Under-19 teammate Kamlesh Nagarkotti who could not play last year due to injury. Prasidh Krishna is also in the squad. The pacer was signed mid-way through the season as an injury replacement for Nagarkotti.

Among players who have been released, the big names are Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson. Overall, the Kolkata-based franchise has released eight players. The other overseas players released by the team are Tom Curran, Cameron Delport and Javon Searles. Among Indians who have been released by the team are Ishank Jaggi, Apoorv Wankhade and Vinay Kumar. Starc had pulled out of the entire competition due to an injury while the other players got limited or no chances through out the competition.

Kolkata Knight Riders had done exceedingly well last season despite losing their inspirational skipper Gautam Gambhir ahead of the season. Under new skipper Karthik and with a team full of youngsters, they had gone on to beat all the odds and make it to the playoffs.  Their journey had ended in the second Qualifier after a loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the IPL auction is set to take place in December. Their are also reports that the league would start early next year due to the World Cup.
