Kolkata Knight Riders, Trinbago Knight Riders Name MPL As Principle Sponsors For IPL And CPL

The Knight Riders and Mobile Premier League (MPL), on Friday, announced that MPL will become the principal sponsor for both the Knight Riders Franchises in IPL & CPL – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). Both the tournaments are set to get underway in the coming days.

CPL 2020 will kickstart on August 18 in Trinidad. The tournament will be the first T20 tournament to be played amid the pandemic. A month later, the IPL will start on September 19. The entire competition will be played in UAE because of the coronavirus situation in India. IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to take place between March and May but the BCCI had to suspend it in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Commenting on signing the deal with MPL, Venky Mysore, CEO & MD of the Knight Riders, said:

Abhishek Madhavan, VP, Growth and Marketing, MPL, said: “We are excited to be the principal sponsors for Kolkata Knight Riders. With Trinbago Knight Riders, one of the strongest teams, having won the CPL Championship three times, as its sister franchise, this association will help us take MPL to the international sports arena.”

Both the Knight Riders teams will be looking to do well in the upcoming season. Kolkata Knight Riders failed to reach the playoffs last season and have not made it to the final since winning the league in 2014. On the other hand, Trinbago Knight Riders finished third last year after back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.
