Kuldeep Yadav has bowled a plethora of magical deliveries in his International career but none can match the ball with which he dismissed Pakistan’s batting spearhead, Babar Azam, during the 2019 World Cup fixture.
It was a perfect delivery by Kuldeep Yadav, one that could have made even spin king Shane Warne very very proud. Chasing 337 to win, Pakistan had slowly started to claw their way back into the game with Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman accumulating 113 runs for the second wicket before Kuldeep dealt a body blow to the Men in Green.
It all happened in the 18th over when Kuldeep pitched the ball that started to drift away before proceeding to turn back sharply into Babar to bamboozle his stumps. During a recent chat session with CricBuzz, Kuldeep termed that delivery as “something different” purely because of the fact that it happened with a white ball, which doesn’t turn much.During a recent chat session with CricBuzz, Kuldeep termed that delivery as “something different” purely because of the fact that it happened with a white ball, which doesn’t turn much.
“That was something different. A spinner’s ball drifted that way and went through. then it hit. And turned to come inside. Sometimes you wonder how you did that. That too a white ball, not a red one. A white ball doesn’t even turn much,” Kuldeep told CricBuzz.com.
Kuldeep Yadav dismissing Babar Azam proved to be a final nail in the coffin for Pakistan
Coming back to the game, Babar’s wicket caused hara-kiri in the Pakistan dressing room and soon a collapse ensued that saw them lose their next five wickets for 48 runs and eventually the game by 89 runs (DLS).
India’s win was obviously set-up by their top-order-led by Rohit Sharma, who scored a nonchalant 140. Rohit was ably supported by KL Rahul [57] and skipper Virat Kohli [77] as India went on to post an eventual match-winning total of 5-336.
India’s victory helped them maintain their unblemished World Cup record against Pakistan and formed all-rounder Abdul Razzaq recently said that India will continue to hold the lead as his players can’t absorb the pressure that comes with an Indo-Pak match.
