Team India skipper Virat Kohli held on to his numero uno status in the latest One-day International rankings for batsmen. However, there is a new entrant who has jumped to the number two position, Courtesy two back-to-back tons by none other than Joe Root.

The Test skipper has leapfrogged to the second position and sits just behind Kohli. Root scored 216 runs in the three-match series which England ended up winning by a 2-1 margin. However, his rating points of 818 are not the best he has achieved in his career so far.

India lost the series, but the skipper played some good cricket through the limited-overs series. He registered scores of 75, 45 and 71 to finish with 191 runs at an average of 63.66. He not only retained his number one position but also reached the career-best rating points of 911.

Root moving up the charts meant other batsmen had to make way. Pakistan middle-order batsman Babar Azam came down to the third position.

David Warner, who is currently serving a suspension from the national team slipped to the fifth position while as Ross Taylor moved one position down to sixth.

However, Rohit Sharma stayed at number four despite two failures in the second and the third ODI. He scored a magnificent century in the series opener which India won quite convincingly by eight wickets at Trent Bridge.

It’s a gain for the wrist spinners:

Two wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Adil Rashid also made a significant rise in the rankings. Both bowled brilliantly for their respective teams.

Leg-spinner Rashid bagged six wickets in three matches and retained his eighth position. However, he gained plenty of points in the rating points.

Among bowlers, there was no change whatsoever in the top five list. Despite not playing in the limited-overs series, Jasprit Bumrah maintains his number one spot. He is followed by Rashid Khan, Hasan Ali, Trent Boult and Josh Hazlewood respectively.
