Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s recent performances have arguably not been satisfactory; however, it doesn’t change the fact that he has two ODI hat-tricks. His first came against Australia in 2017 in Kolkata and the second one arrived last year in Vishakhapatnam against West Indies. And Kuldeep Yadav names the latter as a special one for him.

In response to India’s 387, West Indies found themselves under pressure. However, Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran launched a counterattack that seemed to give the tourists an outside chance. Soon after Pooran departed, Kuldeep Yadav removed Shai Hope, Jason Holder, and Alzarri Joseph in successive deliveries in the 32nd over. It resulted in the home side’s victory by 107 runs.

The 25-year old revealed that since lower-order batsmen were at the crease, it was his idea to put slip fielders around them. The belief that if he put the ball in the right area, he could hit the stumps or get the batsman to edge to the slips. Eventually, it handsomely paid off.

The plan to put an extra slip was mine. I had the belief that I would be able to take the hat-trick as lower-order batsmen were on the crease. I thought if I put the ball on the wicket, the batsman could get bowled, or can give a catch at slip. I knew what delivery I need to bowl to accomplish the hat-trick” stated Kuldeep in an Instagram session with Yuzvendra Chahal and Mayank Agarwal

The left-arm spinner also claimed since it was after a long time that he was making his return to the ODI outfit, the hat-trick was special. According to Kuldeep Yadav, it would remain unique since an outstanding performance always motivates a player and gives them confidence.

It was after a long time after the World Cup that me and Chahal were playing together. After the World Cup, either I was playing or Chahal was playing in a match. And it was also after a gap that I was making a return to the ODI team. This was an important hat-trick because a good performance motivates you. This will always remain special.” the 25-year-old added.
