Babar Azam Has Surpassed Me In Many Ways: Kumar Sangakkara

Sri Lanka’s legendary cricketer Kumar Sangakkara has lavished praise on Pakistan batting sensation Babar Azam. Sangakkara, who led the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on their tour of Pakistan, also stated that Azam has even surpassed him in many aspects.
In his interview, the former Lankan skipper also said that Azam belongs in the category of the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root.

While the veteran also added that there is still room for improvement in Azam and he should try to become the best version of himself in the foreseeable future.
Kumar Sangakkara praises ‘special player’ Babar Azam:
The Pakistan star Azam is currently playing his trade for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020.
In his interview with Cricket Pakistan, Sangakkara sang the praises of Azam while adding that he should be mentioned in the same breath with some of the greats of cricket.
“I have watched Babar Azam for a long time. I actually played with him for Karachi Kings. He is an exceptional player, one of the best in the world, in terms of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root. He seems to adapt to every format very easily, he is a very special player,” Sangakkara was quoted as saying in an interview with Cricket Pakistan.
“I think Babar Azam has already surpassed me in many ways. His aim should be to become Babar Azam, The best Babar Azam possible,” he added.
The 25-year-old Pakistani player is currently ranked No. 1 in ICC’s T20I rankings for batsmen. His recent performances have mirrored the words of Sangakkara, as Azam continues with his domination in cricket.

In Kings’ PSL 2020 game against last season’s finalists Peshawar Zalmi, the right-hander put up a score of 78 runs off just 56 balls. His innings included seven boundaries and two sixes. He was later rewarded with the Man of the Match award for his match-winning exploits.
