Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their poor run in the IPL 2020 as they lost by five wickets against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday. Despite posting a challenging total of 179 runs on board, CSK failed to restrict Delhi Capitals in the chase as they clinched the match with one ball to spare.

Soon after the match there were murmurs that CSK lost the match as MS Dhoni opted to bowl all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the final over. Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, who was present in the commentary panel for the match, however differed in his opinion.

Have to look at their fielding: Kumar Sangakkara

“I think MSD had really planned on bowling Dwayne Bravo in the final over of the chase. Sam Curran got them back into the game with a clear shot at winning. Forced to bowl Jadeja in the end. Probably, Jadeja bowled too full. He should have bowled shorter and wider, getting the batsmen to cut and not allowing them to get on the front foot,” Sangakkara told Star Sports.

“But if CSK are to be brutally honest about why they lost today, they have to look at their fielding. You can talk about their 20th over as much as they want but if they had held on to their catches, Delhi Capitals may not have got close enough to win,” he added.

CSK will next host Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2020. The result for the match will have a large bearing on both the teams. CSK will need to win all their matches to qualify for the playoffs while Rajasthan Royals will also look to stay alive with a victory.
