The Hitman of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma rewrote the history books and became the 1st player on the planet to score more than two double tons in List A cricket. All of the double tons of Rohit has come in ODI matches which is merely an exceptional feat to boast of. Who on earth would have imagined even 5-6 years ago that a batsman would go on to hit three double centuries in ODI cricket? Mind you Rohit hasn’t finished yet and might go on to add a few more to double centuries tally in the limited overs format.
It was a sensational piece of batting by the stand-in-skipper who toyed with the Sri Lankan bowlers especially in the last ten overs of Indian innings. He reached his 16th ODI century in the 40th over which came of as many as 115 balls. The Mohali crowd was due to witness something extraordinary in the final ten overs of the Indian innings.
It was mayhem as Rohit went hammers and tongs and smashed 11 sixes in the final ten overs. There was no respite for the Lankan bowlers as whatever they bowled kept going over the fence. The Mumbaikar smashed Suranga Lakmal for four sixes in an over and then added it with some more lusty blows of Thisara Perera and Nuwan Pradeep.
It was, in fact, the marriage anniversary of Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh and what a perfect gift Rohit gave to his wife. Ritika was part of the crowd and couldn’t hide his emotions when his husband reached his 3rd double ton in ODI cricket. It was his outstanding knock of 208 of 153 deliveries which ensured India reached a mammoth total of 392 in their allotted 50 overs.
Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara took to his twitter handle and congratulated Rohit on a historic innings. “Third double hundred? In ODI’s? Ridiculous. What a player @ImRo45 is. Incredible performance,” Sangakkara wrote.
