Former India wicketkeeper Surinder Khanna has taken a sly dig at Pakistan while stating that the bilateral series between the two countries should not start. India have suspended all the bilateral relations with their arch-rivals due to cross-border terrorism.

The arch-rivals have not played a full bilateral Test series since 2007 when Pakistan visited India for three Tests and five One-Day Internationals. They played a short series of three ODIs and two T20s in India in December 2012, but otherwise, both have faced each other only in the ICC events or the Asia Cup.

At present, the relation between the two countries is at an all-time low. Any chances of seeing both the countries play bilateral series in near future is very unlikely and Surinder Khanna also believes that the bilateral relation should not resume until and unless Pakistan change.

“For long, cricket was used as a diplomatic tool. But as they say, 20 saal bhi kutte ki dum ko nalli me rakh do par wo seedhi nahi hoti (which roughly translates to ‘a dog’s tail can never be straightened) and Pakistan behaved in the same manner,” Surinder Khanna told CricketAddictor in an exclusive interview.

“This is a political issue and it would be better it they (government) deal with it. But as an Indian, until and unless they change , we should not have any relation with them,” he added while also revealing his father lived in Lahore before moving to India.

Surinder Khanna, who is also a member of IPL governing council, also said that the venue for this year’s IPL is yet to be decided. While confirming that the league will take place between September and November, he said that the venue will be finalised only after the meeting of the governing council.
