Former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is reportedly out of the race to join India’s national selection panel. The former-cricketer-turned-commentator was the front-runner to replace MSK Prasad and become the next chairman of the panel.
The position of BCCI chairman of selectors is up for grabs with MSK Prasad finishing his four-year term last November. Since then, Prasad has been on an extension along with former India and Rajasthan batsman Gagan Khoda. The BCCI had advertised for the posts on January 18 and the deadline ended on January 24.
The likes of Ajit Agarkar, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Venkatesh Prasad, Rajesh Chauhan, Nayan Mongia, Chetan Chauhan, Nikhil Chopra, Abey Kuruvilla have applied for the post. However, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is now out of the race, according to Bangalore Mirror.

The news outlet claimed that the ex-cricketer may not get a call for the interview. All indications are that the list to be forwarded to the Cricket Advisory Committee, that will pick the new chief selector, may not figure the former India spinner’s name.
According to BCCI sources, Sivaramakrishnan’s application has not been received by the board. The report further claimed that the turn of events are mysterious since Sivaramakrishnan was being backed by the members of the South Zone.
And sources close to the player have confirmed that he had, in fact, sent his application to the email id mentioned in the BCCI advertisement (nationalsrselectors@bcci.tv).
Sources in the BCCI have revealed that his name is not there among the applicants which means he may have missed the cut in the scrutiny. But unlike Sivaramakrishnan, the likes of Agarkar, Prasad feature in the list. The BCCI initially wanted to upload the names of the qualified applicants on its website, but it has not done so far.
The BCCI is expected to forward the shortlisted applications to the Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of Madan Lal, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naikafter the apex council meeting in Delhi on February 16.
