Trent Boult, on Saturday, created history by becoming the first New Zealand player to take a hat-trick in World Cups. The New Zealand pace spearhead achieved the remarkable feat against Australia at the iconic Lord’s. Boult finished the spell with impressive figures of 4 for 51 off his ten overs. He gave New Zealand a solid start by dismissing in-form Aaron Finch cheaply before helping his side finish strongly too.

He picked up the hat-trick in the very last over of the innings. On the third ball of the final over, he castled a well-set Usman Khawaja. Khawaja departed after scoring 88 off 129 balls. On the next two deliveries, Boult accounted for Mitchell Starc and Jason Behrendorff to complete his hat-trick. Australia eventually finished their innings on a respectable 243 for 9 after suffering an early collapse.

Talking about Boult, he became the tenth bowler to pick up a hat-trick in World Cups. Lasith Malinga has two World Cup hat-tricks to his name. In ODIs, Boult is now the 48th player to take a hat-trick. Boult also became the second bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the ongoing edition. India star Mohammed Shami was the first to pick up a hat-trick in the tournament, achieving the feat against Afghanistan.
