Lead sponsors of the Cricket Australia (CA), Qantas Airways, would now be remembered for all the wrong reasons by the passengers travelling to Wellington from Sydney on February 11 (Sunday). The luggage of 100 passengers on-board was left out in order to accommodate the kits of the English players.

Interestingly, none of the English players were boarding the flight.

After completing the Australian-leg of the Trans-Tasman Twenty20 Tri-nation series, the English team has flown to Zealand to complete the second-half of the tournament.

Both England and New Zealand are yet to open their account on the points table.

Meanwhile, Australia booked their berth into the finals of the competition. England now locks horns New Zealand to determine the other finalist of the series.

Qantas Assures delivery of baggage by Tuesday:

One of the passengers on board Sydney-Wellington Qantas Airways, Viraj Thomson, termed the entire fiasco as disgraceful. Thomson revealed that while waiting for his luggage at the baggage claim section, only bags of the English players were unloaded in the bay.

“There was just bag after bag after bag with the ECT marks on them. And that was basically it and it was all on for England. The penny was dropping there for most of the passengers. It was very odd because the Qantas staff in the baggage assistance area in Wellington seemed completely shocked that no one’s luggage had turned up,” said Thomson according to Radio New Zealand.

“It was a disgraceful display. And the issue seems to be that … left hand being Sydney didn’t tell right hand being Wellington what was going on. Non-team bags were basically forfeit for what appears to be the greater good of a foreign sporting body,” further explained Thomson who was travelling with his elderly mother.

According to reports, Viraj still hasn’t received his luggage. Qantas has assured delivery by the next day.
