The young pacer from Madhya Pradesh Avesh Khan was recently in South Africa as one of the three net bowlers along with Basil Thampi and Aniket Rajpoot. Avesh admitted he enjoyed his time and it was a learning curve for him.
“We were there for eight days. It was a good experience. We had match simulation, open nets. We had to bowl to all the Indian batsmen for long periods. They (the team management) had an eye on us. They saw what we did and suggested what we should do to improve. It was like giving direction to our bowling,” Avesh said.
Avesh admitted he was satisfied with his outing.
“Personally, it was a good opportunity for me, for the team got to see my bowling. I think I did really good there,” Avesh added.
Avesh is currently in Chennai playing for Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Last year he played a match for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli was impressed by his bowling on a “slow and low” Kotla track.
“The way Avesh rushed it onto the batsmen on this pitch, something world-class bowlers couldn’t do, was impressive,” Kohli had said.
Avesh admits his stint with RCB has helped him hone his bowling skills. He reckons the three matches he played for the Board President’s XI last year have played a big part in him getting selected as a net bowler to South Africa.
Avesh was roped in by Delhi Daredevils for this edition of IPL. He will get an opportunity to sharpen his skills playing alongside Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada.
