Former Sri Lanka captain, Mahela Jayawardene will lead Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in T20 triangular tournament.

Thus, the former flamboyant batsman will hold the reins of captaincy against two associate nations, Nepal and Netherlands.

The tournament will be held at the home of cricket, Lords on July 29. Meanwhile, Mahela Jayawardene is regarded as one of the best batsman produced by Sri Lanka. In fact, he also provided his inputs to the Mumbai Indians in the recently concluded IPL.

Jayawardene is an honorary life member of MCC.

Meanwhile, Jayawardene numbers speak for themselves. The right-hander scored all but 12,000 runs in his 149 Tests, averaging 49.84.

The stylish batsman accumulated 12,650 runs in One-Day Internationals format, averaging 33.37 across 448 matches. He also played 55 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,493 runs. Overall, he gathered 54 centuries for his country across the three formats.

Consequently, Jayawardene is on the top three list of highest run-scorers for Sri Lankan cricket across all three forms of the game.

Furthermore, the former Sri Lankan skipper became an Honorary Life Member of MCC in 2015.

Moreover, Mahela Jayawardene also played for English Counties like Somerset and Sussex in his successful career.

Meanwhile, three Scotland players will also make the cut in the MCC squad. Dylan Budge, Alasdair Evans and Mark Watt who all played against England in Scotland’s emphatic win recently will be part of the squad.

Thus, it would be a great opportunity for these players to play under the tutelage of Mahela Jayawardene. However, MCC, which looks after the rules book of the ICC is yet to announce their complete squad.
