Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been setting benchmarks when it comes to taking decisions, ever since he took over as the Indian captain. From giving the last over to Joginder Sharma in the World T20 finals in 2007 to nailing the Decision Review System, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has mastered the art of decision making, perfectly.

We got another example of Dhoni’s masterclass in today’s One Day International match against Sri Lanka. The Indian team is in huge trouble at Dharamshala with the visitors running riot through the Indian batting. With the Indian scoreboard stuck at 87 at the loss of 8 wickets, tail-ender Jasprit Bumrah faced Lion’s spinner Sachith Pathirana.

Bumrah failed to connect one of Patirana’s delivery when he caught on the pads which led to a loud appeal from the Sri Lankans. The umpire did not hesitate to put up his finger signalling Bumrah to make his long walk back. However, the experienced Mahendra Singh Dhoni had other intentions as he went straight up for the review. As the umpires took a closer look, the ball was missing the off stump proving the initial decision wrong. Jasprit Bumrah got another life while Mahendra Singh Dhoni had the last laugh.

However, Jasprit Bumrah did not last long as he was cleaned up by Pathirana in the same over marking the fall of the 9th wicket. Bumrah faced 15 balls without scoring a single run and returned to the pavilion for a duck. Earlier in the match, Dinesh Karthik met 18 deliveries without a result finally falling victim to a duck. The situation appropriately describes India’s situation and gives us a hint that the men in blue are missing their skipper Virat Kohli.

As the situations stand at Dharamshala, it is the visitors who have the upper hand and are poised to go 1-0 up in the series.
