BCCI congratulates Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Padma Bhushan Award

After former skipper of Team India, Mahendra Singh Dhoni got conferred with the third highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has praised the splendid efforts of the wicketkeeper-batsman for its remarkable services in the highest level of cricket.
The 36-year-old Dhoni, who’s the prominent face of Indian cricket, has become 11th overall cricketer to be awarded the prestigious award on the 69th Republic Day of the democratic country on January 26 (Friday).
History and Previous Cricketer to be conferred with Padma Bhushan:
Interestingly, the tradition of the award dates back to 1954 in a bid to honour the people for rendering its services to the country in different traits.
In 2013, former Indian batting mainstay Rahul Dravid, who is now coaching India A teams and Under-19 team, was conferred with the award for his dynamic services in a nutshell.
Nomination:
Earlier, the Ranchi-based superstar Dhoni got nominated for the civilian award, the acting president for the Board CK Khanna has further termed it as the unanimous choice when it came to the brilliant services for the nation.
Dhoni, who is serving the country in the limited-overs cricket, has been phenomenal in the 50-over format which saw him being the first-choice gloveman to pull the handful of tricks out of his bag.
When Dhoni bid adieu to Test cricket:
In 2014, Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy in the Test fold after setting a massive example as a leader.
However, Dhoni already saw the Team India reaching the top of the charts in the ICC’s Test rankings.
The achievements of astute thinker:
Under the leadership of Dhoni, India had sealed the major ICC World Cup titles which started off with the first coveted title in the first edition of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2007 in South Africa, before lifting the 2011 ICC World Cup at home and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy in England.
From debut to becoming a world sensation:
The widely-regarded cricketer, Dhoni made his international debut in 2004 against Bangladesh at Chittagong which further saw him featuring in 312 ODI, and he went on to amass 9,898 runs at an average of 51.55. He has ten hundreds and 67 fifties under his belt.
Moreover, Dhoni played 90 Tests and 86 T20Is. He has scored 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. He registered six tons and three fifties.
