Twitter Reacts as BCCI Nominates MS Dhoni for Padma Bhushan Award

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday has nominated MS Dhoni for the prestigious Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the game of cricket over the years.

Dhoni, who had led India to 50-over World Cup glory after 28 long years in 2011, has been an influential figure for the Indian fans for over a decade now. The BCCI has decided to send only one name for the honorary award this year. Padma Bhushan is also the third highest civilian award in the country.

Dhoni has played 302 ODI’s for India and has scored 9737 runs leaving him short by 263 runs of the 10,000 runs milestone. If Dhoni reaches the milestone, he will become the first Indian wicket-keeper batsman to do so. Dhoni retired from the Test format in 2014 after playing 90 Test matches and scoring 4876 runs.

As a wicket-keeper, Dhoni has held 584 catches in international cricket across all the formats. He also has affected 163 stumpings during his tenure. If Dhoni receives the award, he will be the 11<sup>th</sup> cricketer to receive the honour. The other players being; <strong>Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Chandu Borde, Prof DB Deodhar, Col CK Nayudu, and Lala Amarnath.</strong>
