The ICC met on the 10th of June to decide the destiny of the 2020 ICC World T20. However, it decided to defer the decision to next month to see how the situation progresses. But the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement to allow fans inside the stadium has given a glimmer of hope of the event going ahead.

As far as the Asia Cup is concerned, Pakistan and UAE were scheduled to be its hosts initially. Instead, Sri Lanka have emerged as its hosts as the COVID-19 situation is well under control in the Island nation. The Sri Lankan cricketers have also begun training with Mickey Arthur declaring that the national team is almost ready for international cricket.

Speaking to the New Age, Mahmudullah Riyad understands that there are plenty of factors to consider before conducting the tournament. At the same time, from a cricketer’s point of view, the all-rounder hopes that these tournaments take place as it is a wonderful opportunity to play in these.

We are still unsure about the Asia Cup T20 and T20 World Cup because there are still a lot of things to be measured and a lot of decisions to be made regarding the tournaments. We are still waiting for the green signal from ICC.

But if you ask me, I am very much up for it and I think every cricketer wants to be part of such tournaments like Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. “I hope the tournaments would happen on time. If not then we could still wait a bit longer. But we want to play in these tournaments as they are highly prestigious.”
