Despite having a terrific domestic season, Bengal-based cricketer Manoj Tiwary was snubbed by the selectors for two separate India A and India B squads for the quadrangular series against Australia A and South Africa A respectively. Interesting, his latest tweet on the microblogging website Twitter has revealed a lot.
It indeed came as a big surprise as he has averaged over 100 in a couple of List A tournaments. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Tiwary scored a whopping 328 runs at a staggering average of 109.33. He broke into the squad for India B for the Deodhar Trophy match in March. He scored 179 runs in a couple of innings at an average of 179.
Tiwary was in great touch and played quite freely. However, his individual performances went in vain. He was pretty disappointed after being left out from both the squads.
The Bengal captain took a help from a statistician to disclose his Vijay Hazare and Deodhar Trophy stats of the same year. It was meant to be a direct dig at the selectors.
However, during an interview with timesnownews.com, Manoj clarified that the tweets which he made on Wednesday (July 25) were not related to the team selection.
He, however, revealed that he didn’t hear anything from the selectors.
“First of all, let me clarify that I haven’t tweeted anything regarding the team selection. I just asked the statistician regarding a stat which I was curious to know. That’s it. But it’s true that I haven’t heard anything from the selectors,” Tiwary said.
How many batsmen are there in the history of Indian cricket who has an average of 100 plus in the Vijay Hazare and Deodhar trophy both in the same year ??
Before his tweet, Manoj Tiwary was expecting a berth in the India A or B squad:
Despite mentioning that his tweets had nothing to do with the team selection, Tiwary revealed he was excepting a call-up to either of the squads. He further revealed that he was pretty surprised to know he had such a great record in the two big domestic tournaments.
“Yes, I was surprised but I knew I had a great season. An average of 100 plus in both Deodhar and Vijay Hazare Trophy is very rare to have,” he maintained.
During an interview, Tiwary further reiterated he hasn’t taken the Yo-Yo test so far.
“Not yet, but I will undergo it when the test will happen in Bengal camp,” Tiwary added.
Tiwary has developed a unique slinging action and has gone from leg break to off break. He was a leg-spinner and had a few wickets under his sleeve.
However, he came up with a pretty extraordinary action pretty recently. It was more like of Lasith Malinga. Even Kedar Jadhav is a bit of that type. Tiwary said that he developed this style of bowling to curtail the run flow in a shorter format.
“Yes. The reason behind the switch is not to give the batsmen any bounce to hit. It is very useful on slow and flat tracks considering the main bowlers go for high economy rates these days in IPL and shorter formats. At least with this action, I will not go for many runs,” he said.
