Former Indian middle-order batsman Manoj Tiwary has come up with an entirely new take with regards to selection meetings. Manoj Tiwary has suggested for the selectors’ meetings to have it telecasted live instead of staging it behind closed doors. He last played for India back in 2015; however, remains active in the domestic circuit, plying his trade for Bengal.

Traditionally as well as at present, selections by each cricket board ahead of any tour or home series happens in private. Post the selection panel picks the players; they release the news about the squad or the players who will play. The same has raised plenty of debates and surprises as the selectors go for some surprise pickings, which does not go well with the experts always.
And Manoj Tiwary wants to change it being taken place behind closed doors so that it is visible for everyone to see, which player is getting the nod. The veteran feels that usually when a selector gets questioned for omitting any player, the blame goes from one person to another.
Hence, if it is broadcasted live, things will stay clear.
“Team selections should be aired live, so that everyone can see which selector is taking which player’s name on which grounds. It will help us assess if the selection is fair or not. Normally, what happens is that when we players ask the selectors about why we were ignored, they tend to blame each other for it. So, to make things clear, it’s necessary that the selection meeting is telecast live,” Tiwary said in an Instagram chat with ABP live, reported Times of India
Ultimately, you’ve to provide the Indian players better opportunities to excel at the top: Manoj Tiwary
Manoj Tiwary, who last played an IPL game in 2018, advised the franchises to have the Indian batsmen bat the top in the tournament.
The 34-year-old expressed concern against overseas players occupying the position and getting used to the conditions quite well due to which they become expert against spin and challenging to dismiss in the ICC competitions.
“The Indian batsmen need to bat in the top order in the IPL. I’m not against foreign players, but some of them aren’t used to our pitches, take the opening slot and do well. They get used to playing in the Indian conditions. If you notice, due to the IPL, most of them have become so good against spin, which they couldn’t tackle earlier, that it becomes difficult to dismiss them in the ICC tournaments,”
He believes that even if the four overseas players in the team play down the order, they can withstand the pressure. Tiwary feels that IPL must primarily be about providing a platform for the Indian batsmen getting opportunities and flourish.
“We need to think about it, and it should be planned accordingly. Every team has four overseas players who’re all generally experienced. Even if they come down the order, they can handle that pressure. Ultimately, you’ve to provide the Indian players better opportunities to excel at the top,” Tiwary maintained.
The Bengal batsman identified that there exist very Indian few batsmen who bat at the top as they miss out on the spot due to potent foreign players. And over time, they get used to the conditions, gain experience, and bludgeon the Indian players during the ICC tournaments.
“Right now, very few teams play the Indian batsmen in the top four in the IPL. Most of the teams have foreigners in the top order, and they’re getting used to our conditions, our bowlers, and our spin. They then utilize that experience to play us well in the ICC tournaments,” he added.
