Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis might have given his international career a massive lift through his IPL 2020 performances for the Delhi Capitals. Marcus Stoinis would probably be the only pace-bowling all-rounder in the white-ball games against India as a critical role looms on his part. The 31-year old revealed he is ready to be a floating batsman for the national team.

Marcus Stoinis mustered 352 runs in 16 matches in IPL 2020 at a strike rate of 148 while also picking up 13 wickets. The Western Australian, who played in the lower-order for the most part, did a commendable job for the Delhi Capitals, scoring some quick runs for the franchise and putting them in the driver’s seat. In the last two games, he also batted at the top, a position from where he became the leading run-getter in the 2019-20 edition of Big Bash League.

Marcus Stoinis credited Ricky Ponting for believing in him by handing him responsibilities; however, the all-rounder believes in adaptability. Stoinis wants to fit at any slot in which he feels the team will benefit from the most. The 31-year old reportedly told Ponting he is ready to bat at any spot and could pad up based on the management’s word.

Punter’s (Ponting) a big believer in me and wants to give me responsibility in the teams that he’s been in charge of, but I’ve got to be adaptable. I’m just happy to be involved wherever they feel I can have my biggest impact in the game. Whether that’s at the top or the middle and I’ve had these conversations with Ricky and said ‘just let me know and I’ll put the pads on,” Stoinis stated as quoted by India Today.

Marcus Stoinis underlined that Ricky Ponting is as good as any a coach that a player will get, crediting him for motivating him extraordinarily. Stoinis hailed the two-time World Cup-winning skipper for doing his job commendably and highlighted that his role is crucial. Ricky Ponting would be part of Justin Langer’s coaching staff for the upcoming limited-overs leg against India.

The confidence he instils, the way he teaches you, he’s as good as you’ll get. I don’t think he’s in the business of changing careers but like all those good coaches you don’t really know you’re being coached until you look back and realise (what he did was) bloody important,” he added further.
