Bangladesh’s legendary cricketer, Mashrafe Mortaza has been away from international cricket since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Speculation about his future has been on the rise since his departure from World Cricket. He has been absent mainly because of injuries but the team’s schedule is also a prime reason behind his absence from the international stage. People have been waiting for a clear indication about his future but his recent comments only seem to confuse the situation.

He was recently excluded from the central contracts list at his own request. BCB has accepted his request but it seems keen to hold a farewell for the star. BCB President said that the Board is ready to offer him a farewell only if he’s ready to accept it. But, Mashrafe has refused the Board’s offer.

Mashrafe Mortaza refuses to accept the farewell

Interestingly, Mortaza isn’t interested and he has refused to accept it. Mortaza said, “Till yesterday, I was a centrally contracted cricketer with the cricket board but not anymore. I thank the BCB for considering to give me a proper send-off, but I don’t have much interest in it.”

However, Mortaza’s comments do not seem to end the speculation about his future. On one hand, he has opted out of central contract. On the other hand, he looks determined to step on the field as he did on Monday in a BPL match with 14 stitches in his hand. He himself admitted that his recent performance isn’t so qualitative that can earn him a place in the national squad.
